With hot weather finally arriving this May, its important drivers take precaution to avoid facing heavy repair costs and fine. Bad Credit Car Finance Provider, Go Car Credit, have curated a set of essential tips for protecting your care for this Heatwave, that could potentially save you from up to £1,000 in damage.

Drivers are being urged to check their tyre pressure, hot weather can cause the temperature of your tyres to rise rapidly and expand, which can cause punctures or blow outs. Making sure to check your tyres aren’t underinflated but the correct pressure will avoid paying around £25 on average to have them repaired.

Watch out for overheating, prolonged driving in hotter conditions than normal can cause your engine to overheat. This can also cause your car’s oil to thin, further damaging the engine, and potentially costing £100 on average to change.

Re-gas your aircon, the temperature inside a car can quickly rise, potentially being double that of the heat outside. Checking your air con before setting off is a small, but crucial step to keeping cool. If your car’s air con does need to be regassed, then this can cost around £75.

Protect your car’s exterior, Although the heatwave doesn’t seem to be hitting extreme temperatures, we’d recommend parking your car in the shade regardless. Sunshine can cause leather seats to split, and the paint to crack. Just having one leather car seat repaired can set you back around £325 on average, and having paintwork repaired can cost around £400, so be cautious of where you park!

Prioritise your wellbeing, this is arguably the most important tip. Making sure to wear sunglasses while driving can not only protect your eyes but will help deter from sunlight being a distraction while driving. Also making sure to keep sun cream and water in your car during hot weather will protect you dehydration, and getting sun burnt which in long term can increase the risk skin cancer.

Hayley O’Connor at Go Car Credit had this to comment about the driving during a heatwave, “With the weather finally picking up, it’s important to be precautious and stay safe while driving in hot weather.

“It’s important to be aware of the potential damage, and how to avoid paying hefty repair costs which could set you back up to £1000. We’ve put together these Summer Driving tips and Advice to help protect our customers from any heatwave ensued problems.”
