England host Argentina this weekend in their final fixture of an impressive 2025.
England recovered from conceding two early tries to score four of their own in a stunning 33-19 victory over the formidable All Blacks, with George Ford kicking two drop goals and delivering another man-of-the-match performance at fly-half.
It was only England’s ninth-ever triumph against New Zealand in 120 years and 47 attempts, with arguably their greatest statement to date during Borthwick’s reign adding to comfortable wins over Australia and Fiji earlier in November.
Argentina head to London also full of confidence after a sensational comeback of their own, having recovered from a 21-0 second-half deficit to storm to a 33-24 defeat of Scotland at Murrayfield last weekend thanks to five tries in just over 20 minutes and a heroic cameo off the bench from Bath’s Santiago Carreras.
Felipe Contepomi’s men had earlier put 52 points on Wales following a Rugby Championship campaign in which they finished bottom but recorded a first home win over New Zealand and also edged out Australia in Sydney.
An England team missing most of their top stars on British and Irish Lions duty down under won both Tests against an undermanned Pumas outfit resting key players for the Rugby Championship in Argentina in July, with the latter also hammering Uruguay and spoiling the Lions’ farewell party in Dublin during an eventful year.

England vs Argentina in the Quilter Nations Series finale takes place on Sunday November 23, 2025, with kick-off scheduled for 4:10pm GMT.
The match is being held at Allianz Stadium Twickenham in south-west London.

England have been hit by a late injury blow, with Fraser Dingwall picked to start against Argentina but withdrawn on Friday after suffering a side strain.
Max Ojomoh comes in for just his second cap at inside centre as a result in an all-new midfield partnership alongside Henry Slade, with Ollie Lawrence and Tommy Freeman also sidelined.
He replaces Tom Roebuck, scorer of the late fourth try against New Zealand who has been ruled out this weekend with a foot injury.
Freddie Steward passed his second and third head injury assessments after failing an initial HIA against the All Blacks so starts again at full-back, with Ford and Immanuel Feyi-Waboso also retaining their places but Alex Mitchell making way for Ben Spencer at scrum-half.
In the forward pack, Jamie George is also out with a hamstring injury, so Luke Cowan-Dickie starts at hooker. Ellis Genge replaces Fin Baxter at loosehead prop, with Borthwick springing a surprise by starting Asher Opoku-Fordjour at tighthead with Joe Heyes not involved and Will Stuart on the bench.

Alex Coles continues alongside captain Maro Itoje at lock with Ollie Chessum still injured, with England again selecting the back-row trio of Guy Pepper, Sam Underhill and Ben Earl.
There is a 6-2 bench split once more, with Theo Dan providing the cover at hooker and Charlie Ewels preferred to Chandler Cunningham-South in another surprise. The versatile Marcus Smith remains in the squad with Fin Smith again omitted completely.
Jamie Blamire and Saracens starlet Noah Caluori were both added to the wider squad this week along with Ewels but don’t make the matchday 23.
Argentina show five changes from Murrayfield, with the returning Tomas Albornoz replacing Geronimo Prisciantelli at fly-half as Santiago Carreras remains on the bench despite his awesome cameo against Scotland, likewise Pablo Matera.
Wing Bautista Delguy and centre Justo Piccardo replace Mateo Carreras and Santiago Chocobares, while Thomas Gallo and Marcos Kremer come in at loosehead prop and openside flanker respectively as Mayco Vivas and Joaquin Oviedo drop out.
Santiago Grondona switches from the blindside to number eight, with the Pumas – who have 10 Prem players in their squad – captained by former Leicester stalwart Julian Montoya.

Things are looking very rosy indeed for England right now and another victory this weekend would cap off what has been a mightily fine year – far and away the best of Borthwick’s tenure to date and a far cry from 2024, when concern abounded after they repeatedly fell short against top-level opposition.
The previous frustration over his perceived conservatism, pragmatism and style of play has been forgotten as the wins continue to pile up and with the All Blacks vanquished at Twickenham for the first time since 2012 in a classic encounter.
It is a brilliant place to be in with preparations gearing up for the 2027 World Cup in Australia, the draw for which is coming up in early December.
England’s supreme strength in depth in most positions is the envy of much of the rugby world and is being utilised perfectly, with the so-called ‘Pom Squad’ continuing to wreak havoc off the bench.

Borthwick’s big calls are all coming off for the most part, not least the decision to opt for the experience of Ford over Fin Smith as his starting No10.
With the Six Nations approaching fast on the horizon, they will be strong favourites to register an 11th consecutive win against an Argentina team who roared back in spectacular fashion to topple Scotland thanks in no small part to the heroics of Santiago Carreras.
But the Pumas looked extremely jaded and out of sorts for over 50 minutes at Murrayfield, at the end of what has been a long year, and any repeat of that would surely see them brushed aside comfortably by soaring England.
