The US has stopped funding for Kyiv and now Europe are facing a severe shortage of weapons stockpiles as the bloc “cannot keep on giving” risking the “collapse” of the Ukrainian military.

A debate is taking place in the US over the level of aid to continue sending to Ukraine, which comes after Poland announced in September that they will no longer approve anymore new weaponry for Kyiv.

Poland made the decision over concerns their stockpiles were dwindling and said that they will honour the current weapons contract, but after they will focus on building more modern weaponry.

General Stephane Mille, chief of staff of the French Air and Space Force, told reporters, “After two years we need now to have another discussion because we cannot give, give, give and see our systems going down for Ukraine.”

“We cannot keep on giving from our own stockpiles,” another European official told the news outlet, speaking anonymously.

“We’ve given everything that will not endanger our own security.”

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. On 31 July, the US provided the most military aid of any ally worth £36.6 billion, which is more than the next 10 top donors combined.

Without the continued military assistance from the US, Ukrainian troops will eventually run short or even out of ammunition for ground operations.

Mark Cancian, a senior adviser at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies, said, “The Ukrainian military would weaken and then ultimately perhaps collapse,” but they “might be able to just hold on the defensive.”

He told AFP that Moscow may well take advantage of the situation, as Vladimir Putin’s soldiers are exhausted.
