Only one driver, Sebastian Vettel, has ever managed more than seven consecutive victories as Verstappen looks to continue his streak at Hungaroring by matching the personal bests of Michael Schumacher, Nico Rosberg and Alberto Ascari.
The circuit has traditionally been a banker for Hamilton, who has eight wins in this grand prix, and he has the chance to extend that further after pipping Verstappen to pole on Saturday.
The McLaren duo of Lando Norris and Oscar Piatri will start on the second row, while Daniel Ricciardo finished 13th in qualifying on his return to the sport.
Ricciardo is racing for the first time in F1 this season having signed a deal with AlphaTauri. That has put the pressure on Sergio Perez, who crashed in a wet first practice session and will start the race in ninth.
