On Friday four fighter jets were scrambled as it is believed a Russian drone entered NATO’s airspace during an attack on Ukraine.

Russia attacked the town of Izmail leaving 14 injured and three dead and Ukraine shot down 24 out of 32 drones, the Odesa regional prosecutor confirmed.

Two Romania F-16s and two Spanish F-18 fighter jets were scrambled between 1.52am and 3.22am on Friday morning.

Romania said that at least one Russian drone entered their airspace at 3am for a “very brief period” of around three minutes.

The ministry released a statement, “The Ministry of National Defense sends a firm message of condemnation of these attacks carried out by the Russian Federation against Ukrainian civilian objectives and infrastructure.

“[They] are unjustified and in serious contradiction with the norms of international law. From the data available at this time, the existence of an impact area on the national territory has not been reported.”

Romanian authorities are searching for the Russian drone on their border, but as yet they have found no traces.

The Romanian Ministry of Defence said, “The Ministry of Defense strongly condemns these attacks carried out by Russia against Ukrainian civilian objects and infrastructure, which are unjustified and seriously contradict international law.”
