irefighters continue to tackle a huge fire that broke out at a self-storage unit near the M25 on Thursday night.
Around 9am on Friday, 10 hours into tackling the blaze in West Byfleet, Surrey, huge amounts of black smoke continued to pour from the building.
The fire is understood to have torn through an industrial unit occupied by Access Self Storage, in Oyster Lane.
Residents were asked to avoid the area, while those living near the scene were urged to keep their windows and doors closed.
Dozens of firefighters were first called to the scene late on Thursday.
At around 7am, Surrey Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: “We remain in attendance at the incident, with 9 fire engines and three aerial ladder platforms.
“Our control room are receiving a high volume of calls reporting the fire this morning.
“Please note that we are aware of the smoke, and expect to be at the scene throughout the day.
“We continue to advise that local residents keep windows and doors closed and avoid the area. Please plan your journey in advance this morning to avoid disruption.”
National Highways also tweeted about the blaze, which is visible from the M25, between junctions 10 and 11.
An image showed huge amounts of smoke issuing high into the air above the busy orbital.
Access Self Storage has been approached by the Standard for a comment.
