Hyundai’s luxury brand outsold Nissan’s Infiniti in the US last year, selling over 80,000 vehicles for the first time. Now, Genesis is closing in on Lincoln and Acura.

Genesis sold over 80,000 vehicles in the US in 2025

In just 10 years, Genesis has established itself as a true threat in the US luxury market. Genesis sold 82,331 vehicles in the US in 2025, its first time surpassing 80,000.

Since it arrived in 2016, Genesis has delivered over 400,000 vehicles to US customers. Despite a down year in 2020 during the pandemic, the luxury brands’ sales have now risen for five consecutive years.

Genesis sold 49,621 vehicles in 2021, 56,410 in 2022, 69,175 in 2023, and 75,003 in 2024. According to South Korean news outlet Newsis, the growth is thanks to its shift from a price-to-performance luxury brand to one that’s better known for safety and reliability.

With over 80,000 vehicles sold in 2025, Genesis outsold Infiniti (52,846) in the US. The company is closing the gap with Lincoln, which is expected to sell around 100,000 vehicles in the US. It’s also chasing Honda’s Acura at around 130,000.

The impressive growth streak is also due to its growing lineup of electric and hybrid SUVs, including the GV60, GV70, and GV80.

For the most part, Genesis has focused solely on all-electric or internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, but that will change in 2026.

Genesis is launching its first hybrid, the GV80, this year, followed by the GV70 hybrid in early 2027. The luxury brand is expected to introduce its first extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) later this year, which will also be based on the GV70.

After dropping the Electrified G80 from its lineup, Genesis currently offers two all-electric models in the US: the GV60 and Electrified GV70.

Later this year, Genesis is expected to launch its first performance EV, the GV60 Magma, and its new flagship full-size GV90 electric SUV as it aims for a bigger piece of the US luxury market.

Hyundai also posted its fifth straight year of higher US retail sales in 2025, with electric vehicles and SUVs leading the growth.
