Manchester City finally captured the one trophy to have eluded them thus far with a nervy win over Inter Milan in Istanbul.
A second-half strike from Rodri and two stunning saves from goalkeeper Ederson proved enough to ensure City matched bitter rivals Manchester United in winning the treble.
Manchester now follows Milan in being the only city to have two teams who have lifted the Champions League.
With City matching United’s achievement, debate as to who were the better team will undoubtedly rage.
Still, Guardiola was at pains to play down such tribal debate and simply spoke of how honoured he was to match the iconic Scotsman in lifting the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in the same season.
“I can’t wait to be on the bus with the three trophies,” he said.
“It’s an honour for me to be like Sir Alex Ferguson – he sent me a message this morning.”
