The 15-year programme, showcased at this year’s Mipim conference in Cannes, also includes workspace for the creative, digital and technology industries, with the aim of creating 25,000 jobs at sites along the Great West Road in west London.
The Golden Mile stretches 4km between Heathrow and central London.
The plans also include green spaces, improved public realm (including the new West London Regional Park), enhanced transport connections and new cultural, education and community facilities.
The council has committed around £1.15m to the Golden Mile London programme and early priority projects, including the Golden Mile Innovation Hub, greener streets and improvements to the A4, to help kickstart development.
The University of West London and Hadley Property Group are working with the council on plans for the Golden Mile Skills and Innovation Hub, which will help train residents, launch start-ups and scale up businesses across the creative, digital and technology sectors.
Hadley Property Group’s plans to redevelop the former GSK headquarters site at 980 Great West Road into 2,300 homes and 320,000 sq ft of commercial and community space have also been approved.
Hounslow council leader Shantanu Rajawat said Golden Mile London would be “one of the most significant regeneration opportunities” in the capital.
He added: “This is about shaping the future of Hounslow, west London and London itself, delivering thousands of new homes and jobs while creating greener, healthier neighbourhoods for our residents.
“Through strong partnerships, we are setting out a bold, long-term vision for inclusive, sustainable growth.”
Rob Tincknell, chair of the Golden Mile Business and Developers Forum and chief executive of developer Areli Group, added: “Golden Mile London is a story that hasn’t really been told until now. The vision launched today gives a clear sense of our ambition. Investors, businesses and Hounslow council are aligned to make this unique place absolutely extraordinary in the years ahead.”
