When it comes to any car park, the safety of drivers and pedestrians should always be at the forefront of your mind. One of the best ways to ensure the safety of individuals utilising your car park, whether in a vehicle or on foot, is by investing in barriers.

There are a number of ways that car park barriers can improve the overall safety of car parks. Whether it’s barriers for entry or Armco crash barriers to prevent accidents with vehicles and pedestrians, these are the reasons you should be investing in barriers for added car park safety.

What are the different dinds of car park barriers?

There are a few different types of car park barriers out there, and you’ve probably seen quite a few in your day-to-day life, but knowing the kinds of car park barriers that are out there can really help you decide exactly what you need for your own car park.

These are some of the most common car park barriers you may encounter:

  • Max Height Barriers: These barriers are important for any car park that has a height restriction. Investing in a maximum height barrier at the entrance to your car park can ensure that only vehicles that are under the maximum height restriction are able to enter the car park premises.
  • Crash barriers: Crash barriers are crucial to stop vehicles getting too close to other cars, buildings or pedestrian walkways.
  • Bollards: These are mostly used when car parks want to separate pedestrians from vehicles whilst still allowing people to easily access the car park, but not allowing cars to get through to the sections for pedestrians.
  • Rising Arm Barriers: This is typically what you would find in car parks that require payments. They ensure that only authorised individuals or those with the relevant tickets are able to enter and leave your car park.

How barriers can improve car park safety

There are a number of ways that barriers of all kinds can improve overall safety in car parks for both vehicles and pedestrians. These are some of the reasons you should be investing in appropriate barriers for your car park.

1. Separate pedestrians

This is one of the most important reasons for barriers in car parks. Separating pedestrians from vehicles is crucial for overall safety. Barriers work by keeping pedestrians safe from moving vehicles which is vital especially if you’re in areas with high foot traffic like shopping centres or schools.

Ensuring that pedestrians are separated from moving vehicles allows you to minimise the risk of accidents where vehicles hit pedestrians which in turn minimises the risk of serious injury in your car park.

2. Managing traffic

Barriers are crucial when it comes to managing traffic in your car park. If you have a car park that is quite difficult to manage, or you just want to ensure your car park is streamlined for maximum efficiency, using barriers can be a great help.

Using barriers means you can direct vehicles where to go, where to park and most importantly, restrict certain areas that aren’t suitable for vehicle access.

3. Controlling access

Barriers can prevent vehicles from accessing unauthorised areas as well as stopping unauthorised vehicles from entering your car park. This is especially important if you are in a car park that charges to park there as it means no one can enter or exit the space without paying.

Not allowing unauthorised vehicles to enter your car park is a key feature for overall safety and it’s crucial that if you have restrictions on who is allowed to enter, that you have barriers in place.

4. Slowing traffic

Barriers are perfect for slowing down traffic and ensuring speed limits aren’t exceeded in car parks. This is perfect for reducing congestion and also improves overall safety for not just pedestrians, but also for other vehicles.

Ensuring the vehicles in your car park are adhering to a strict speed limit is a surefire way to ensure safety for everyone in the space.

Car park safety is key

Car park safety is absolutely crucial when it comes to ensuring you keep the public, and drivers safe. Barriers are a key way to keep your car park safe and secure at all times.

When it comes to finding the right barriers for your car park, ensure you do the research and chat with others in the field to find out what will work best for your unique needs.
