Storm Chandra is causing travel disruption amid strong winds and torrential rain leaving hundreds of schools closed and thousands have no power.
In Northern Ireland more than 300 schools are closed, in Armagh, Down, Fermanagh, Londonderry and Tyrone counties there is a yellow weather rain alert.
Belfast City Airport cancelled around 30 flights on Tuesday due to heavy winds and rain and the public are being warned there is a danger to life from flying debris and on the coastline there is large waves, trees falling and damage to some buildings.
In Northern Ireland there is around 10,000 properties without power and the police have advised that due to heavy rainfall there is flooding on a number of roads.
