Hyundai closed out 2025 strong, posting its fifth straight year of record retail sales in the US. With new vehicles and tech arriving in 2026, the company expects another big year.

Hyundai achieves fifth straight record US sales in 2025

Coming off its best-ever December sales last month, Hyundai went “5 for 5 in 2025,” achieving its fifth consecutive year of record annual retail sales.

Hyundai’s retail sales in the US totaled 772,712 in 2025, while total sales reached 901,686. Randy Parker, CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, credited the company’s “diverse lineup, spanning advanced electrified vehicles and award-winning SUVs.”

The IONIQ 5 remained one of the top-selling electric vehicles in the US, with a record 47,039 models sold in 2025.

Even though sales dropped 58% in Q4 after the $7,500 federal tax credit expired at the end of September, IONIQ 5 sales rose 6% year over year. The Tucson, Sante Fe, Palisade, Elantra, and Venue also set new annual sales records.

Electric vehicles accounted for 30% of total sales in 2025. Hyundai’s EV sales rose 7% from 2024, while hybrid sales were up 36%.

After delivering the first customer models in May, Hyundai sold 5,189 IONIQ 9s in 2025, its flagship three-row electric SUV.

Hyundai is betting on local production to help it overcome the new US auto tariffs. In an interview with the Atlanta Business Chronicle last month, Hyundai Motor’s CEO, Jose Munoz, said, “We’re going to increase production capacity in Georgia, beyond what we have already announced.”

The Korean automaker has committed to investing $26 billion over the next four years to ramp up production and extend its record sales streak in the US.

Hyundai currently builds the IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 9 at its new Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), but Munoz said the company is working on “multiple projects on different fronts, including robotics, AI,” and more advanced technologies.

Initially, Hyundai said it would build EVs exclusively at the HMGMA plant, but it’s now planning to add hybrids to the mix in 2026.

Sister company, Kia, also posted record annual US sales for a third straight year. Kia’s electrified vehicles and SUVs led the growth.
