Hyundai’s first three-row fully electric SUV is finally almost here. The “game-changing” IONIQ 9 can drive further, charge faster, has more than enough interior space, and much more. After launching in its home market, Hyundai looks to shake up the SUV market in the US and Europe.

Hyundai IONIQ 9 has new tech to boost driving range

The IONIQ 9 takes the best from Hyundai’s popular IONIQ 5 and IONIQ 6 models, and maximizes it. Hyundai’s larger electric SUV is loaded with the company’s latest battery tech, enabling a longer driving range.

Powered by a massive 110.3 kWh (NCM) battery, the range-topping IONIQ 9 has EPA-estimated driving range of up to 335 miles. On the WLTP scale, it’s rated with up to 620 km (385 miles).

With an advanced HVAC system, the SUV can still travel nearly 250 miles (400 km) in extremely cold temperatures as low as -7°C (19.4°F), certified by Korea’s Ministry of Environment.

The ultra-efficient system includes a heat pump and independent rear-row HVAC setup that deactivates when nobody is sitting in the rear to save energy. It also has a new active air flap that opens or closes to improve airflow.

But, that’s not all. Hyundai designed the IONIQ 9 with for maximum efficiency and driving range. The SUV features a 3D-shaped underbody cover, new wheels, and hidden antennas, all of which help increase driving range.

With a drag coefficient of just 0.259 Cd, the Long-Range RWD model has a low energy consumption of just 194 Wh/km.

Spacious lounge-like interior with room for seven

The SUV’s design maximizes efficiency and provides a spacious, “lounge-like” interior. In some markets, it will even include swiveling rear seats. With the third-row seats folded, the IONIQ 9 boasts a cargo capacity of up to 1,322 liters. That’s more than the Kia EV9, which has a capacity of up to 1,233 liters.

At 5,060 mm (199.2″) long, 1,980 mm (78″) wide, and 1,790 mm (70.5″) tall, the IONIQ 9 is slightly bigger than the EV9. However, it’s a bit smaller than a Rivian R1S at 200.8″ long, 82″ wide, and 77.3″ tall.

Inside, the IONIQ 9 is loaded with Hyundai’s latest software and connectivity tech, including dual 12-inch driver and infotainment screens in a curved panoramic display.

After opening pre-orders in Korea last month, Hyundai will launch the IONIQ 9 in the US, Europe, and other markets this year.

The IONIQ 9 is arriving in the US this Spring (any day now). It will be built alongside the updated 2025 IONIQ 5 at Hyundai’s new EV plant in Georgia. Like the new IONIQ 5, Hyundai’s larger electric SUV will have an NACS port for charging at Tesla Superchargers.

Prices will be revealed closer to launch, but the IONIQ 9 is expected to start at around $60,000 or slightly more than the EV9.
