France has fallen victim to one of the world’s largest cyber attacks in which one in two French people’s data was stolen leaving 33 million at risk.

The cybersecurity breach, the largest ever in France, took place when two service providers Viamedis and Almerys were targetted by cyber criminals in the first week of February.

This is particularly alarming as Viamedias and Almerys are service providers to medical insurance companies meaning data of millions of people is now exposed to criminals who can misuse information to great extents.

The French data protection authority (CNIL) said that information like “the marital status, date of birth and social security number, the name of the health insurer and the cover provided by the policy” of half the population of France has been impacted.

Data protection needs to become a top priority in today’s digital age when data thefts are rife.

Enter Incogni – a personal data protection service that protects your information.

Incogni makes a list of data brokers likely to have each customer’s information and sends removal requests to those companies. They also follow up on rejected requests with consumer protection agencies and regularly re-do the opt-out process to make sure the customer’s data stays off the market. Incogni recheck with data brokers about starting to collect removed people’s data every three months making an annual plan the best way to keep your data protected.

Incogni provides protection from:

Hackers

Hackers and cyber-attacks such as phishing or identity theft that use your personal information to target you.

Invasion of privacy

Total strangers accessing your most personal information, including your address, phone number, and even weekend hang out spots.

Shadow profiles

Invasive shadow profiles that can use your online activity to influence your behavior and worldviews such as political affiliations.

How Incogni protects your data

Automated data removals

They provide an affordable, effective, and user-friendly data removal tool.

Supported by law

They use the GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws to make data brokers remove your personal information from their databases.

Education

They work with consumer privacy advocacy groups to spread awareness and promote better data privacy laws.

What to expect from Incogni’s data removal process

First day

You register and subscribe for Incogni! They send out data removal requests to all applicable data brokers on their list.

First week

The first data brokers start responding to their requests. They use the GDPR, CCPA, and other applicable privacy laws to make data brokers remove your personal information from their databases.

First quarter

Most data removal requests are processed within 2 months and they follow up on those that aren’t to make sure your personal information is removed.

To delete your personal data from the internet, here are the three steps you need to take:

  1. Get started – Create an Incogni account and tell them whose personal data we’ll be requesting to remove.
  2. Grant them the right to work for you
  3. Relax and watch them work
