A meal in Wetherspoons could cost upwards of £30 by 2025, new inflation research has shown.

It comes as the budget pub chain’s annual report released earlier this month highlighted turning over its first annual profits since 2020 as it saw total sales rise by 10.6% to £1.92 billion for the year to July 30. A big boost was seen via its food sales, which increased by 17.7%.

At present, prices across the 826 locations vary city by city with the price of a cheeseburger ranging from as low as £5.86 in Nottingham, Sheffield, Portsmouth and Southampton to £7.92 in London Liverpool Street.

The new research from Saxo following JD Wetherspoon’s annual report shows how much four popular Wetherspoons meals will cost in 2050 based on the average inflation rate of 2.45% over the past 27 years.

The most expensive meal is currently in London where three small plates will cost £18.98, but in another 27 years this will set you back £46.50. Prices in Edinburgh, Cardiff and Manchester are also among the most expensive with three small plates all costing over £17.

By 2050 across the country the average cost of a cheeseburger meal, which is accompanied by chips and a soft drink, will set diners back £16.42. Meanwhile, all day brunch will cost around £24.13, fish and chips will be an average of £24.23 and three small plates will set you back £36.41.
