The US has announced on Sunday they will deploy a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery along with American soldiers to crew the device, this can intercept short and long-range ballistic missiles.
The US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin has authorised the THAAD which will “help bolster Israel’s air defences” against Iranian missile and drone attacks.
This comes as Israel are gearing up to attack oil and military infrastructure site inside Iran following Tehran’s attack on Israel two weeks ago.

The US Defence Department said in a statement, “At the direction of the president, [Defense] Secretary Austin authorized the deployment of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) battery and associated crew of US military personnel to Israel to help bolster Israel’s air defenses following Iran’s unprecedented attacks against Israel on April 13 and again on October 1.”
This deployment of the THAAD “underscores the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of Israel, and to defend Americans in Israel, from any further ballistic missile attacks by Iran,” The Times of Israel reports.
Adding, “It is part of the broader adjustments the US military has made in recent months, to support the defense of Israel and protect Americans from attacks by Iran and Iranian-aligned militias.”
Each THAAD battery consists of 48 interceptors, with six truck mounted launchers, radar and radio equipment and 95 US soldiers per unit will operate it.
Tehran earlier on Sunday warned Washington to keep their soldiers out of Israel as America will be putting US “lives at risk” by being deployed in Israel.
The Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a direct message to Washington, “The US has been delivering record amount of arms to Israel.
“It is now also putting lives of its troops at risk by deploying them to operate US missile systems in Israel.”
He added, “While we have made tremendous efforts in recent days to contain an all-out war in our region, I say it clearly that we have no red lines in defending our people and interests.”
