If you were waiting for the range-topping electric Dodge Charger, you might be out of luck. Jeep and Dodge maker Stellantis is shelving plans to launch the Charger Daytona SRT Banshee EV, which promised to outmuscle the SRT Hellcat engine.

Is Dodge shelving the Charger Daytona Banshee EV?

After unveiling the Charger Daytona SRT Concept in 2022, Dodge claimed it “muscles aside the boring BEV paradigm,” and would re-imagine what an EV could be.

That’s if it ever actually comes to life. According to a new report from Mopar Insiders, the most powerful electric Dodge Charger is the latest victim of Stellantis’ sudden shift back to gas-powered HEMIs, a stark contrast from its previous plans to electrify each vehicle.

While the current Dodge Charger EV uses a 400V platform, delivering up to 670 horsepower, the SRT Banshee was set to arrive on an 800V architecture.

Stellantis said its new propulsion system “drives the Charger Daytona SRT Concept with performance that exceeds the Dodge brand’s famed SRT Hellcat engine.” Although no official specs were confirmed, Dodge’s halo EV was expected to pack at least 1,000 horsepower.

The base Charger Daytona R/T was already dropped for the 2026 model year, leaving the higher-performance Scat Pack model as the only option.

Dodge declined to comment, but the move appears to be part of Stellantis’ broader shift back to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles and other “electrified” options, such as hybrid and range-extended electric vehicles (REEV).

Ram, another Stellantis brand, cancelled plans to launch its all-electric truck and will replace it with the Ramcharger REEV.

Ram and Jeep are bringing back the HEMI engine in the Ram 1500 and Wrangler Rubicon 392, while the 2026 Dodge Durango will only be available with a HEMI in 2026. It looks like the Charger could be next in line for a return to the V8 engine.
