The Kremlin has said that Russia still needs to achieve their aims of the so called “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Moscow are now “ready to welcome anything to hasten” the end of the war, but they will not give up proclaimed the annexation of four partially occupied Ukrainian regions – Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
The four regions were in annexed in September 2022 by Vladimir Putin and he said at the time that these lands belong to the Russian Federation forever.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, “We are ready to welcome anything that could hasten the end of the conflict in Ukraine and Russia achieving all the goals it has set itself.
“As for the fact that they communicated – that is a sovereign matter for each of these countries and a question of their bilateral dialogue.”
Peskov was asked if Russia and China had discussed restoring Ukraine back to their 1991 borders, the Kremlin spokesman said, “There was no discussion of that.”
On Wednesday President Volodymyr Zelensky had a “long and meaningful” call with the Chinese President Xi Jinping where they both exchanged views on their relations and also discussed the ongoing war.
Jinping said he will send special representatives to Ukraine to hold talks with “all parties” over the “political settlement of the Ukrainian crisis.”
“The two sides should focus on the future, persist in viewing and planning bilateral relations from a long-term perspective, continue the tradition of mutual respect and sincerity between the two sides,” President Xi reportedly said.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, “We note the readiness of the Chinese side to make efforts to establish a negotiation process.”
Writing on Twitter, President Zelenskyy said: “I had a long and meaningful phone call with… President Xi Jinping.
“I believe that this call, as well as the appointment of Ukraine’s ambassador to China, will give a powerful impetus to the development of our bilateral relations.”
