The Deputy Prime Minister has been accused by the Shadow Defence Secretary James Cartlidge for a “going a runner” after more prisoners have been wrongfully released.

Over the past month there has been three manhunts leading to David Lammy facing growing pressure to stand up and be accountable.

The first wrongfully released prisoner was the Ethiopian illegal migrant Hadush Kebatu who was convicted of sex offences, he was later captured by the Met Police in North London, then deported to make the problem go away.

Cartlidge asked Lammy five times during Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday that The Telegraph reported another prisoner had been released in error, the Deputy Prime Minister refused to answer the questions.

Speaking to GB News Cartlidge said, “I asked the Justice Secretary, you think it’s a reasonable thing to ask him.

“They do run the justice system and he didn’t make any attempt to answer whatsoever. And so I was very frustrated by that.”

He added, “What worries me above all, there were 90 that were violent or sexual offenders. Now that is incredibly worrying for the public.

“So, to quote David Lammy to me, he needs to get a grip. Get a grip indeed. Or consider his position.”

Look, there’s a big question about the ministerial code,” Cartlidge continued. “As a minister, David Lammy is duty-bound to be transparent with Parliament.”

He said that he found it quote “extraordinary” that Lammy dodged five questions, he raged, “He needed to come back and clarify and he refused to do so. He did a runner and that’s not acceptable.”
