Lexus just upgraded its electric SUV in nearly every way possible. The 2026 Lexus RZ now has more driving range and power with a fully redesigned BEV system. But, that’s not all. The electric SUV gains a slew of new features, including Lexus’ first Steer-by-Wire system. It’s even getting the F Sport treatment. Here’s our first look at the updated EV.

Lexus RZ now has more range, power, and features

The luxury electric SUV is getting its first major refresh since launching in 2023. Lexus introduced the “new RZ” on Wednesday, which will roll out later this year.

With its new Steer-by-Wire system, the 2026 RZ features a “completely new driving experience.” The setup paves the way for the newly added RZ 550e F Sport model, its new flagship trim.

The F Sport model delivers up to 408 horsepower (300 kW) with a refined DIRECT4 all-wheel-drive (AWD) powertrain.

Not only is it more powerful, but it’s also more fun to drive. Lexus introduced an Interactive Manual Drive mode that simulates gear shifts with immersive sounds for the first time. The system fine-tunes the power and torque to give you that sports car-like feeling.

The high-performance trim gains exclusive exterior upgrades, including front lower bumper mouldings, brake ducts, front and rear spoilers, and 20-inch aero wheels.

On the inside, the F Sport model features a dedicated black and dark grey color scheme with blue stitching accents. Additional interior elements that come with the new trim include scuff plates, a new steering wheel, and aluminum pedals.

The 2026 Lexus RZ features an updated BEV system with a bigger battery that provides more range. Lexus also added an eAxle and a new lithium-ion battery with up to 77 kWh capacity.

Lexus claims the improvements boost driving range by up to 100 km (62 miles). The RZ 350e is expected to have a WLTP driving range of up to 575 km (357 miles), while the 500e and F Sport trims will get around 500 km (310 miles) and 450 km (280 miles), respectively.

Like Toyota’s new electric SUV, the C-HR+, also introduced this week, the Lexus RZ now has a battery preconditioning feature that cuts charging times by around 30 minutes.

The new RZ will launch in Europe later this year. Although Lexus has yet to confirm it, the US version is expected to feature the same upgrades. Check back soon for more info including prices and final specs.
