The Liberal Democrats are the 5/4 favourites to win the Mid Bedfordshire by-election, which was triggered by Tory MP Nadine Dorries’ shock resignation.

The Conservatives are outsiders at 5/2 to retain the seat that they’ve occupied since 1931 and either Labour or the Lib Dems to not have a name on the ballot – a tactic to remove a Tory from Parliament – is 33/1.

Labour are 2/1 to win the seat, but will be looking towards the next General Election, where they are the 4/6 favourites to win a majority, whilst the Tories are 6/1 to hold onto their majority in the next general election, while no overall majority is 7/4.

An OLBG spokesperson said: “Nadine Dorries said ‘No!’ to a quiet end to the week’s politics news and shocked Westminster by resigning from her Mid Bedfordshire seat with immediate effect, triggering a by-election.

“The seat has been blue since the 1930s’ but the odds suggest that run is coming to an end with the Lib Dems the 5/4 favourites, followed by Labour at 2/1 and the Conservatives 5/2 outsiders to hold onto the seat.

“Labour and the Lib Dems may trial tactics to oust a Tory and either party are 33/1 to fail to stand a candidate in order to not split the vote.”
