Carol has now broken her silence on her Loose Women gig after joining the show originally in 2000.

She told Best Magazine how the “stress” over upcoming contract negotiations had been impacting her life.

She said: “I haven’t been on the show for two months now because I’ve had to step away from it.

“It was causing me too much stress, which was mostly down to a difficult contract issue I’d been challenging since January.

Now her Loose Women co-stars have rushed to support Carol on social media.

Carol took to Instagram where she shared a snap of her on the cover of Best magazine titled: “I quit! What really happened behind the scenes.”

Nadia Sawalha, 58, rushed to the comments section and left a supportive message.

She wrote: “Miss you smelly poo ! Even though we disagreed on most things you’ve always made me laugh my head off! As I’ve always said thank god we weren’t at school together it would have been #carnage !! Big hugs x.”

Denise Welch, 58, wrote: “Gutted Mcgiff truly,” along with a series of love heart emojis.

Brenda Edwards, 58, also wrote: “I always enjoy when you are on as we have such a laugh, but you of course must always do what is best for you! I really hope I get to see you again love you lots lovely lady. Keep Smiling.”

In the exclusive interview with best magazine, Carol shared: “The problem was, ITV were insisting, for the first time since I went back in 2018, that if I wanted to carry on doing the show, I would have to sign a contract that was totally unjust and unworkable for me, so I had to say no thanks.

“And I know it looks like I’ve thrown my toys out of the pram, but the whole saga was affecting my health.”

An ITV spokesperson said: “ITV will not comment on or disclose details of individual contracts but all ITV contracts comply with the relevant external legislation.”

Brenda Edwards wrote: "I always enjoy when you are on as we have such a laugh, but you of course must always do what is best for you! I really hope I get to see you again love you lots lovely lady. Keep Smiling."
