According to Down Detector Vodafone, BT and EE are all suffering from a major outage on Thursday afternoon affecting millions of customers who are unable to make of receive calls.
Companies such as Utility Warehouse, Ecotalk, Co-op Mobile 1pMobile, Lyca Mobile and spusu are also down as they use EE’s infrastructure.
A spokesperson for BT told techradar: “We’re currently addressing an issue impacting our services.
We’re working urgently to fix this issue and will provide a further update as soon as possible.
A spokesperson for Vodafone said, “We’re really sorry, but due to some technical issues some customers will be experiencing issues making or receiving calls,” the spokesperson said.
“We know how important it is for you to have this working and we’re working really hard to fix this as soon as possible.”
Comms UK who are a total Telecoms and IT solutions company said they are aware of the outage on Thursday afternoon.
Writing on X, they said, “We’re aware of a nationwide outage affecting multiple mobile carriers, which may impact your ability to make or receive calls to mobile networks.
“Our team is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates as more information becomes available.”
O2 has said they are operating “entirely as normal” after some customers reported issues on Thursday.
A spokesperson said, “The only reason behind the small spike on Down Detector – which is significantly smaller than other providers – is simply due to issues some of our customers might experience trying to contact friends or family who are with operators which are experiencing issues today.
“It’s not an issue with our network.”
Ernest Doku, Uswitch mobiles expert said, “BT and EE’s reported outages will be incredibly frustrating for customers. Issues with phone calls have been reported since about 11am this morning and it remains unclear what the issue seems to be, who is affected and how long it may last.
“Mobile networks and landlines are vital to reach essential and emergency services, it’s important for customers to be reconnected as soon as possible – and kept up to date with any developments.
“EE, part of BT Group, has confirmed they are working urgently to fix the issue impacting its services.
“The quickest way to check if your mobile network down in your area is by searching your mobile provider on a site like Down Detector. You can report an issue with your network and check if other people using your provider’s network are reporting an issue, too.
“Ofcom advises that compensation for mobile signal outages is ‘dependent on the circumstances’, however in extreme cases where repairs take much longer you may be entitled to an additional refund or account credit.
“If your landline stops working, you will be entitled to compensation if it has not been fixed within two days, but make sure to report the issue to your provider as soon as it happens. You will receive an initial £9.98 if the service is not fixed two full working days after you report it, and then £9.98 for each full day it is still not fixed after that.
“If you’re experiencing regular issues, don’t hesitate to contact your provider to see if they can help.”
