THE salad days of summer may have left you with half-finished jars of mayo, barbecue sauce and other kitchen odds and ends.

But instead of bunging them in the bin, there’s plenty of ways to use them up.

Scoop out some savings from the bottom of the jar with these autumn ideas.

PIZZA PIZZAZZ: Instead of using tomato sauce on a home-made pizza base, try some warming barbecue sauce instead.

This is especially tasty if you marinade leftover cooked chicken in the sauce too and then top it all with cheese.

You can also stuff the sauce-coated chicken into a soft roll, with shredded carrot and lettuce.

SAUCY STOPGAPS: A dollop or two of sauce from the bottom of the jar can transform autumn dishes.

Add a spoonful of barbecue sauce to pie fillings or drizzle over sausages for the last five minutes of cooking.

Find more ideas at stokessauces.co.uk.

NO YOLK: If you’ve set out to make a cake and then discover you’re out of eggs, you can use mayonnaise instead.

Replace one egg in recipes with two tablespoons of mayo.

Fancy a batch of biscuits? Search “Mayonnaise Cookies” at allrecipes.com.

HOT STUFF: If you have sweet chilli sauce or chilli jam left over, brush it over roast pork for a tasty glaze.

Or also add it into a stir fry for extra zing.

Chilli and chocolate are a great mix.

Add a spoonful to chocolate cake or cookies for a bit of kick.

DEEPLY DIPPY: Leftover condiments can be mixed to make a dip.

Mayo and ketchup make an easy Marie Rose sauce.

Equal measures of mayo and mango chutney, plus a dash of curry powder make a top dip.

For another idea, check out the recipe for air fryer parsnip chips with smoked paprika and BBQ mayo dip at lovefoodhatewaste.com.
