Goodlord is set to release a manifesto calling on the UK government to provide increased support for the lettings industry.

The manifesto, titled ‘Renting Done Right’, will be unveiled at an industry event in London next week, aims to highlight the industry’s core concerns based on insights gathered from roundtables and events held with over 1,000 letting agents, 300 landlords, and 280 tenants in recent months.

The manifesto will outline a series of recommendations for government action to address the challenges faced by the lettings industry, including low housing stock, rising inflation and increasing demand.

The move comes after Goodlord organised an open letter earlier this year urging the government to step up their support for the rental market.

Initial insights from the manifesto reveal that 79% of landlords believe there will be even less housing supply across the UK in the next five to 10 years. Additionally, 81% of agents and 70% of landlords expressed concern over the lack of clarity from the government regarding their medium to long-term plans for the lettings sector.

William Reeve, Goodlord CEO, commented: “The lettings industry is of national importance, but it’s consistently overlooked by decision-makers. We need the government to take meaningful, wholesale action to address the concerns of all rental market stakeholders. If they don’t, we risk undermining the stability of this essential sector.”

Reeve emphasised that the manifesto was created in collaboration with landlords, agents, and tenants, and said he hopes it will act as a catalyst for change.
