Hyundai unveiled its newest electric vehicle (EV), the Creta Electric SUV, on Thursday. The EV borrows features and bold design elements from Hyundai’s IONIQ lineup and has a range of nearly 300 miles. Check out the sleek new electric SUV below.

The Creta EV is a significant milestone as “our first localized electric SUV in India,” Mr Tarun Garg, CEO of Hyundai’s India operations, explained at the event.

Although Hyundai has already sold over 1.1 million Creta SUVs, the electric model “promises to redefine the market.”

Hyundai’s new electric SUV is a drastic improvement from the gas model. You can see new IONIQ-like design elements, including a new pixelated front grille, lower bumper, and LED tail lamp. It even includes new Active Air Flaps (AAF), Aero Alloy Wheels, and Low Rolling Resistance tires for improved efficiency and performance.

The new Hyundai Creta EV has two battery pack options, 42 and 51.4 kWh. The former provides 242 miles (390 km) ARAI driving range, while the latter is good for 293 miles (473 km) range.

With DC fast charging, the electric SUV can be charged from 10% to 80% in 58 minutes. Connected to the 11 kW Smart Connected Wall Box charger, it can fully charge (10% to 100%) in 4 hours.

Hyundai’s new electric SUV includes upgrades over the gas model with features like vehicle-to-load (V2L) to power up electronics and more with portable power. It also has an ergonomic shift-by-wire driving system and a digital key for added convenience.

The Hyundai Creta EV is available in four models: Executive, Smart, Premium, and Excellence. Buyers can choose from eight monotone, two dual-tone, and three matte color options, including an exclusive ocean blue with a black roof.

Hyundai will reveal prices closer to its official launch, expected on January 17, 2025, at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo. The 2024 gas-powered Creta starts at around $12,800 (Rs 10.99 Lakh), but the electric version is expected to start closer to $25,000 (Rs 22.00 Lakh).

The bad news is for those in the US, Hyundai’s new Creta electric SUV is not expected to make the trip overseas. However, Hyundai is launching the new 2025 IONIQ 5 and its first three-row IONIQ 9, both of which now qualify for the $7,500 US tax credit.

What do you think of the new Creta Electric? Would you buy one for around $25,000? Or are you sticking with the IONIQ 5 or 9 models? Let us know in the comments.
