The Met Office has warned that the remnants of Hurricanes Humberto and Imelda will bring almost a foot of rain to parts of the UK this week.
The Met Office has issued a 37-hour yellow weather warning for rain between 5pm on Wednesday and 6am on Friday in western Scotland.
Parts of Argyll, Ayrshire, Dunbartonshire and Renfrewshire have been issued with the alert and other areas could be affected.
On Tuesday Marco Petagna, a senior operational meteorologist at the Met Office, wrote on social media, “Ten inches of rain not out of the question over the highest ground in western Scotland in the next few days… pretty incredible rainfall totals.”
Deputy chief meteorologist Chris Bulmer added that from Wednesday “persistent” rain will form, the heaviest downpours over the hills of Scotland.
He said, “Pulses of heavier rain will extend more widely at times,” he added, later this week things will “become more complex.”
He warned, “If this materialises, we could see some very strong winds as well as further heavy rainfall Friday into Saturday, but at this time the development and track of this system remains uncertain. We’re monitoring this closely.”
The Met Office said there is a “possibility of further warnings being issued later this week as confidence increases.”
