The Met Office has said that parts of the UK could experience temperatures of minus 10C and there could be snow fall of up to 5cm.

On Friday morning there is widespread frost as overnight temperatures fell to minus 6C in south west England and Wales hit minus 8C, whilst Scotland experienced minus 8C.

The Met Office has issued three yellow weather warnings as freezing cold temperatures could continue until the weekend in some areas.

On Friday morning the Met Office has issued an alert for snow and ice until 11am from Scotland to East Anglia.

Commuters are being warned that journeys by car and rail could take longer due to untreated icy roads.

Met Office meteorologist Ellie Glaisyer said, “For most of us it will be dry and bright. There will be some wintry showers over the hills.

“There could be 2cm to 5cm of snow for areas 100m to 200m above sea level, with rain falling at lower levels, particularly Northern Ireland and western Scotland.

“The North York Moors and parts of Scotland will likely get snow.

“There will be another widespread frost, with a max temperature of 5C across the South.”
