Qatar is under attack as Iran has launched a series of missiles at the US al Udeir air Base which is home to around 10,000 troops.

Qatar has closed their airspace which is significant and comes within hours after the US and UK warned citizens to take immediate “shelter.”

Reuters has reported there has been a series of explosions on the capital city and prior to the attack it was announced there is a “credible Iranian threat” to the US air base.

Shortly before 6pm UK time a US report said that six missiles was launched to Qatar and Iran has also started to attack a US airbase in Iraq which has British troops deployed there as well, Sky News reported.

Iran has called the attack the “annunciation of victory” according to Iranian state media and

Across Doha air defences are firing a barrage of rockets and Iranian state-run Tasnim said that Iran’s Revolutionary Guard launched the attack on US bases in Iraq and Qata, Kuwait has confirmed they have closed their airspace.

The British Foreign Secretary David Lammy told MPs in Parliament the UK will defend all British assets and be there for our allies.

Lammy said, “Be in no doubt, we are prepared to defend our personnel, our assets and those of our allies and partners.”

The US Defence Department and White House has said the “Situation Room” is “closely monitoring” threats to all their air bases across the Middle East.

Qatar has said that they reserves the right to respond directly and in accordance with international law on Iran.

Qatar’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Majed al-Ansari says the Iranian attack on the US Air Base, al-Udeid base is a “violation of Qatar’s sovereignty and airspace and the UN charter.”

Qatar said in a statement, “We are assured that Qatari air defences thwarted the attack and successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles.

“A statement clarifying the circumstances of the attack will be issued later by the Ministry of Defence.”

There has been no reported casulties at the al Udeid US Air Base, Qatar has said their airspace and territory are “safe.”

The Iranian Supreme National Security Council said in a statement, “This action does not pose any threat to the friendly and brotherly country, Qatar, and its noble people, and the Islamic Republic of Iran remains committed to maintaining and continuing warm and historic relations with Qatar.”

The IRGC has warned there will be further attacks if Tehran is provoked and said the attack was retaliatory to America bombing three nuclear sites in Iran.

The IRGC said, Iran “will never leave any aggression against its sovereignty, territorial integrity, or national security unanswered.”

Iran’s Supreme National Security Council has suggested this is end of the “hit and run” attacks, and depending on Donald Trump does or doesn’t this could now be then end of strikes in the Middle East, as Israel they will most likely continue.
