ax Verstappen sits on pole for today’s Monaco Grand Prix after a dramatic qualifying session.

Veteran Fernando Alonso looked to have secured his first pole position in 11 years, only to be pipped by a shocked Verstappen by just 0.084 seconds.

Today should prove equally as dramatic with rain on the forecast as Verstappen looks to continue his charge for a third-straight world title.

The iconic street circuit has been kind to Red Bull over the years, in particular denying home favourite Charles Leclerc any serious glory around the tight-and-twisty streets, but Sergio Perez – last year’s winner – will start Sunday’s 78-lap race at the back of the pack after he crashed out of qualifying.

An initially damp forecast has, over the course of the week, gradually settled down into a more typical sunny scene for the Principality.

Sunday, however, currently has around a 50 to 60 per cent chance of rain for during the race.
