In the coming weeks Morrisons will stock their own budget range for their customers on food and household products across 500 of their convenience stores.
Morrisons said they will start their Savers range after listening to customers demands, and consumer watchdog Which? Said this is a welcome step that will see prices going down by around 12%
The supermarket chain will start with 10 products which includes soup, skimmed milk, sausages, toilet rolls and washing up liquid and in the coming weeks, there will be a further 30 items, of eggs, cheese, mince, juice and ham.
David Potts, chief executive of Morrisons said, “Inflation is stubbornly high and the cost of living is showing no signs of reducing.
“Speaking plainly, the reason that convenience stores don’t stock entry price point products is because they make very little, if any, money and do not fit with the significantly higher cost structure of convenience stores.
“But customers – especially those living in areas without easy access to a supermarket – have told us how much they would appreciate it at this difficult time and so we are doing it.”
