The Kremlin has said on Monday Russia and US officials are not planning to meet in Saudi Arabia this week for peace talks.
The Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied a CNN report US and Russian officials are meeting this week in Saudi Arabia.
The US Secretary of State will fly to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia Reuters reported, as the US delegation are to assess whether or not Ukraine will make concessions to Russia to cede territory to Vladimir Putin.
A US official told Reuters of the upcoming talks, “You can’t say ‘I want peace,’ and, ‘I refuse to compromise on anything.”
Another official told Reuters, “We want to see if the Ukrainians are interested not just in peace, but in a realistic peace. If they are only interested in 2014 or 2022 borders, that tells you something.”
