Nissan EV drivers, or more specifically Ariya drivers, will be able to use Tesla’s Supercharger network starting next week.

It’s for “realsies” this time.

Last month, Tesla pulled the trigger early and announced that Nissan EV drivers now had access to the Supercharger.

It turned out not to be accurate, as per Nissan, but we were told that it was coming soon.

Soon is next week.

Nissan announced today:

Nissan ARIYA drivers will gain access to 17,800 Tesla Superchargers within the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network (NECN)1 beginning on December 10. The expansion brings the total NECN to more than 100,000 public chargers in the US and 25,000 in Canada.

Only Ariya drivers will have access since Leaf vehicles are equipped with the CHAdeMO connector, and the Supercharger’s opening to non-Tesla EVs works with CCS ports.

Nissan says that Ariya drivers can now order a CCS to NACS adapter for $235. You can get it through your local Nissan dealer or Nissan’s US website.

The Ariya is equipped with a front passenger-side charge port, which should make it easier to park at the Supercharger station without having to block another stall.

It’s something that is becoming a problem as Tesla opens up the network to non-Tesla EVs, and the company has been addressing it lately with a few updates.

Nissan also added that starting next year, its electric vehicles in North America will come with a NACS connector as standard.

Electrek’s Take

This should make the Ariya more useful for owners all over North America. Leaf owners are left behind, but it’s not too surprising since it’s an older gen vehicle and those are not supported forever.

Nissan took its sweet time between the Leaf and Ariya, resulting in giving up its EV leadership.

The company is not doing great right now with its stock down ~%40 this year, but I do know that they are working on a bunch of new electric vehicles, and hopefully, we will get to see a few of them in the North American markets.
