ewly crowned 100metre champion Noah Lyles was involved in a golf buggy crash on his way to his 200m semi-final in Budapest on Thursday night.
Two buggies collided driving to the stadium, with one volunteer thrown out of one of the vehicles as a result of the crash.
Lyles was reportedly overheard on his mic suggesting that Luxolo Adams, who was sitting a row behind him, may have been left with glass in his eye in the incident. But the South African was given the all clear to run.
All eight athletes involved in the opening semi-final of the 200m were on board one of the buggies. As a result of the collision, Lyles’ heat did not go ahead as planned at 19.20 BST.
The semi-final started 20 minutes later with Lyles winning with ease and Adams failing to make the final.
In a statement, World Athletics said: “The 200m heats reorder was due to the collision of two golf carts. One athlete and a volunteer were assessed, and the athlete cleared to participate. He will compete in the last heat.”
