New research has revealed North East England is the luckiest region in the UK, based on winning statistics data from the Postcode Lottery, National Lottery and Premium Bonds.

Experts at Casino.co.uk, which provides the best UK casino reviews and ratings, ranked the luckiest regions of the UK by calculating the monthly average total winnings each region has had from The People’s Postcode Lottery, The National Lottery and Premium Bonds.

The data revealed North East England is the UK’s luckiest region, winning an average of £2,795,727 monthly. Compared against its estimated population of 2,646,772, that means the average monthly winnings per person in North East England totals £1.06 – the highest amount in the UK, making it the region with the most luck.

The second luckiest UK region is Wales, which is home to 3,105,410 people, and wins a total of £3,128,278 across the three lotteries on average per month, putting the monthly winnings per person at £1.01 per month on average. It is one of only two regions with a return of at least £1 in winnings per person.

North West England ranks third, totalling £7,262,295 per month on average, with £0.98 winnings for each of the 7,422,295 people who live in the region.

Scotland is the fourth luckiest part of the UK winning an average total of £5,207,988 each month, giving an average monthly winning of £0.95 per person, just ahead of Yorkshire and the Humber in fifth, amassing a monthly average total of £5,100,578, putting per person wins at an average of £0.93 per month.

Winning a total of £7,833,549 per month on average and £0.84 per person is the South East of the UK, putting the region in sixth, which places the South West in seventh place in the rankings with £4,563,207 in total wins per month and ££0.80 per person each month.

The Midlands ranks as the eighth luckiest region in the UK, winning £8,576,064 a month in total wins equating to £0.79 per person, whereas East of England, the ninth luckiest region, totals wins of £4,758,225 per month and £0.75 per person on average.

London ranks as the tenth luckiest region in the UK, winning an average total of £4.485,614 per month, resulting in a monthly per-person average of £0.51.

The final region in the rankings is Northern Ireland which has won £774,736 per month on average. The average monthly winnings per person in the region totals £0.41, placing it firmly in eleventh place.

An expert from Casino.co.uk said, “As the cost of living is constantly on the minds of millions across the UK, it is a popular choice for people to want to take a chance and enter to win money; with huge prize draws and enormous amounts of cash up for grabs, some have been lucky enough to call themselves a winner.

“Entering the lottery or winning big through Premium Bonds may feel like only a dream to some, but this study offers an incredible insight into which regions win the most through the most popular cash-prize draws and how much is won in each region.”
