An official from South Korea’s National Intelligence Agency (NIS) has said North Korea has sent more troops to Russia to fight in the Kursk region.
The official from the South Korean spy agency told AFP “some additional troop deployments (are) appearing to have taken place” and that additional soldiers have been “redeployed” in the Oblast.
The spy agency said that Pyongyang could be sending a further 1,000 specialist troops this year to fight Ukrainian troops alongside Russian forces, the Yonhap news agency reports.
The NIS said, “Following about a monthlong lull, North Korean troops were placed back in the frontline region of Kursk starting in the first week of February.”
They added, “It appears that there has been a deployment of additional troops, but their size is still being examined.”
North Korea initially sent “Storm” corps troops from the 11th Army who are known as “Storm Corps” and in late January around a third of the 12,000 were withdrawn from combat.
Last week the South Korean spy agency said that “After almost a month of calm, North Korean troops were again deployed in the frontline areas of Kursk from the first week of February.”
