Solid-state battery developer QuantumScape is off and running in 2026, inaugurating its shiny new Eagle Line for pilot production. Eagle Line lays the groundwork for scaled solid-state battery production and will produce cells to support OEM customer sampling.

QuantumScape ($QS) actually invited me to this Eagle Line inauguration. Still, we’re covering the news remotely, because I’m located quite a ways from the solid-state cell developer’s San Jose headquarters. Whether it’s in person or from the other side of the country, QuantumScape remains one of the most exciting solid-state developers to report on, and today’s Eagle line pilot inauguration news is no different.

As we reported last December, QuantumScape announced another successful year of progress, hitting every one of its 2025 target goals. That included integrating its proprietary “Cobra” solid-state separator process into baseline production, thus laying the groundwork for higher-volume B1 sample production of QuantumScape’s QSE-5 solid-state lithium-metal cells

QuantumScape capped off 2025 with one last key goal: installing the necessary equipment for its “Eagle Line,” which would soon begin highly automated pilot production of battery cells. On February 4, 2026, QuantumScape officially inaugurated this new solid-state pilot production line and invited OEM partners, such as the Volkswagen Group, to attend the ceremony.

QuantumScape inaugurates Eagle solid-state pilot

The intro video above was shared by QS to kick off yesterday’s inauguration, which included a showcase tour of the new Eagle Line attended by automotive OEM customers, QS ecosystem partners, and government officials. QuantumScape President and CEO, Dr. Siva Sivaram, spoke about the milestone:

The demand for better batteries is universal, ranging from energy storage to transportation and mobility to defense to AI applications. In order to meet that need, we have the Eagle Line. Here we come!

This is our kitty hawk moment. This is our Apollo mission launch. This event represents our transition from an innovation-technology company into a product customer company.

QuantumScape shared that once the Eagle Line ramps up, it will produce QS solid-state battery cells that will be shipped to customers for “sampling and testing, technology demonstrations, and product integration efforts.”

The pilot line has also been activated to demonstrate scalable solid-state cell production and enable QuantumScape’s licensing partners to manufacture at a gigawatt-hour scale at their own facilities.

Lastly, QS said the Eagle Line will serve as a platform to develop and test further technology and process improvements at scale, hopefully expediting the development of its unique technologies. QuantumScape COO, Dr. Luca Fasoli, also spoke during the inauguration event:

The Eagle Line is a real technical achievement on the part of our team. After deploying the Cobra process, we rapidly moved to scale up our cell build process to increase output, scalability, automation and quality. I’m proud of the intense effort that went into making the Eagle Line a reality.

As Fasoli mentioned, the Eagle Line for pilot production incorporates QuantumScape’s Cobra solid-state separator process. Eagle hums into production as the latest culmination of QS’s hard work, moving the company one step closer to full-fledged commercial cell production.

Speaking of which, here’s a peek at the line in action as shared by QuantumScape:
