Veteran broadcaster Andrew Neil has warned that the Chancellor is “on her last legs” and the Prime Minister “will not be far behind.”
He accused Rachel Reeves of “serial gaslighting of the British people” as she delivered a brutal statement during the Autumn Budget which saw soaring tax hikes.
The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) provided Reeves with figures showing that the country is in the black and there is no “black hole” and no need for tax rises.
Neil wrote in the Daily Mail, “Taxes are going up not because of Brexit, Ukraine, Trump, poor productivity or the tooth fairy running away with the magic money tree at the end of the Downing Street gardens.

They are increasing because of conscious Labour policy choices to abandon welfare reform, eschew any cuts in public spending and tax working people more to raise welfare benefits – the express demands of Labour backbenchers on a Prime Minister and Chancellor too weak to resist them.
He added: “Reeves looks on her last legs. Forensic questions about her deceptions are batted away with a long, self-serving exegesis about child poverty, as she morphs from Iron Chancellor to Mother Teresa of the Treasury.
Nobody is buying it and it won’t save her skin. The OBR, which ironically she professed to worship, has blown the lid off her serial gaslighting of the British people. She can’t survive the brutal exposé.”
Reeves has been accused of lying and has defended her Budget, she said in an interview on Sunday “of course” I did not lie.
She said, “Anyone who thinks that there was no repair job to be done on the public finances, I just don’t accept that.
We needed to build more resilience, more headroom into our economy. That’s what I did, along with that investment in the NHS and cutting bills for families.
