Renault and Dacia have warned their UK customers that personal data has been stolen in cyber-attack, and the breach took place via the brands third party providers and not their own systems.
In an email to affected customers, Renault said: “We are very sorry to inform you about a cyber attack on one of our third-party providers, leading to some Renault UK customers’ personal data being taken from one of their systems.”
Renault and their sister brand Dacia insisted that no financial data including passwords are affected and the cyber-attack has been “contained and removed,” the company insisted that they own systems were not attacked.
They said in a statement, “We are in the process of contacting all affected customers, advising them of the cyber-attack and reminding them to be cautious of any unsolicited requests for personal information.”
A Renault UK spokesperson added: “We wish to apologise to all affected customers. Data privacy is of utmost importance to us and we deeply regret that this has occurred.”
