Rivian is teasing this year’s Halloween update, and it looks ‘swampy’

We are two weeks out from Halloween, and Rivian is already playing trick or treat with its social media followers. The EV automaker teased what appears to be this year’s unique Halloween “Car Costume” by showcasing a moss-covered Rivian vehicle near water.

One of the fun little perks of this day and age of software-defined vehicles (SDVs) is the ability for OEMs like Rivian and Tesla to roll out occasional over-the-air updates that can change the entire personality of a vehicle.

While most of the year is dedicated to more robust updates that fix bugs and introduce new features (which we also cover), Halloween offers the Rivian team an opportunity to be creative and send a fun update that can transform your R1S or R1T into something truly unique… or even scary!

Around this time last year, Rivian began teasing a Halloween “costume” update that was themed after Knight Rider (featuring a cameo from David Hasselhoff). When the actual update was released, a Back to the Future option was also available, transforming the dash displays into Doc Brown’s famed DeLorean.

Now in its fourth year, Rivian is back with a new Halloween theme, which appears a lot more green and boggy than years past. Check out the full teaser below.

Rivian is going full “Swamp Thing” for Halloween 2025

Rivian shared the video below on its social media accounts today, accompanied by the caption, “It’s almost time to reveal what lurks in the shadows…”

I took a screenshot of the video and brightened it so it’s a bit easier to see the detail of what appears to be hinting at Rivian’s theme for the Halloween update this year. It appears to be swamp or pond-related, as the vehicle’s front end is covered in moss, and it is parked next to murky water.

As you’ll see in the video, Rivian also notes that “Something is bubbling…” again, hinting at a bog, swamp, or lagoon theme, possibly related to a creature or monster.

The front lights transition from green to blue, then a purplish pink, theming something that is perhaps scary or otherworldly. We won’t truly know until Rivian pushes its Halloween software update out to the public, but I plan to test it out soon and share a video as soon as I can activate this new car costume.

Until then, here’s the full post from Rivian:
