Moscow has said on Thursday that they will not rule out the deployment of nuclear missiles in response to Berlin agreeing to have long-range US missiles based in Germany.

Last week the US said they will start “episode deployments” of weapons to Germany from 2026 that will include new hypersonic missiles the SM-6 Tomahawk to demonstrate their commitment to NATO, Reuters reported.

The US will be “arming a new multi-domain task force that blends both air defense and land attack missiles,” Popular Mechanics reported.

The US will also be sending their new “Long-Range Hypersonic Weapon” (LRHW) which was designed and built jointly with the US Navy and Army.

The White House said, the new weapons “have significantly longer range than current land-based fires in Europe.”

The LRHW can travel at speeds of Mach 17 with a range of 1,700 miles which will be deployed to Germany as part of the second tier.

Moscow said, “missile threats to Russia will not be left without due response on our part.”

On Thursday the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov was asked by reporters if Russia will deploy nuclear missiles in response.

Russian state news agency TASS reported that Ryabkov said, “I don’t rule anything out.

“If officials from the German federal government believe it reasonable to carry out inflammatory activities, citing what we have in the region (Russia’s westernmost Kaliningrad region – TASS), then we will respond with retaliatory measures we deem appropriate.”

He said that Russia must recalibrate their response to NATO’s capacities without any “internal constraint” with what they will deploy to who and when.

He added, “That said, there is a wide range of options. It’s not about threatening anyone, it’s a way to find the most effective method to respond to the changing challenges, particularly in terms of costs.”

The Russian diplomat continued, “Nothing is predetermined, and there is no predetermination for further tensions.

“Unfortunately, at this point, the West is going the way of escalation, searching for far-fetched pretexts to accuse us of allegedly infringing on its security. This is deplorable, but it won’t stop us from working to ensure security along the entire Russian border, definitely including the special military operation area.”
