The west Londoners are keen to tie down the highly regarded defender to a new deal before finding him a suitable loan move.
The quality of the loan stint could be keen to keeping Gilchrist, who wants to go on loan in men’s football to further his development.
Gilchrist’s current contract expires next summer in June 2024.
Chelsea will also send midfielder Tino Anjorin on loan next season and the 21-year-old was pictured at Portsmouth’s training ground on Friday.
