SNP and Scottish Green Members of Scottish Parliament have brought in a motion that says that the British Government is “terrified to show anything but utter compliance and subservience to the Israeli government” and that the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) should be proscribed as a terrorist organisation in the UK.
The suggestion that the Jewish state exercises outsized influence in domestic politics alludes to an age-old trope and is a breach of the International (IHRA) Definition of Antisemitism.
While the Scottish Greens refuse to adopt the Definition and demonstrate their commitment to fighting anti-Jewish racism, the SNP has adopted the Definition.
The motion has been brought by SNP MSPs Stephanie Callaghan, Ben Macpherson, Paul McLennan, Stuart McMillan, David Torrance, Evelyn Tweed, and Scottish Green MSPs Maggie Chapman, Ross Greer, Mark Ruskell and co-Leader Patrick Harvie.
A spokesperson for Campaign Against Antisemitism (CAA) said in a written statement, “The suggestion that the Jewish state exercises outsized influence in domestic politics alludes to an age-old trope and is a breach of the International (IHRA) Definition of Antisemitism.
While the Scottish Greens refuse to adopt the Definition and demonstrate their commitment to fighting anti-Jewish racism, the SNP has adopted the Definition.
