First-half goals from Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford had set Spurs on course for a third defeat in a row yet Son netted the late leveller following Pedro Porro’s reply in an improved second-half display.
“It was a great second half, I thought we didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down in the first half,” the Korean winger told BT Sport. “We played quite well, we had the chances to score but we weren’t clinical enough.
“United were 2-0 up but I think in the second half we showed great character – but we’re not happy we didn’t get three points.”
He added: “We had great chances but the final decision making wasn’t perfect.
“We’re playing at home, we didn’t want to let the fans down, we wanted to give everything. That was the dressing room speech. In the second half we did a great job, our fight and character was really good.”
It was at times a muted atmosphere in north London on Thursday night yet Son paid tribute to the fans for sticking by the team so soon after their dismal trip to Newcastle.
“We couldn’t let the game go,” he continued. “They scored two in the first half, we thought why can’t we score two in the next 45 minutes?
“We were really positive but really angry about it, we didn’t deserve to be 2-0 down at half-time. I think the lads showed really good character.
“Football is all about the fans. Last week was unacceptable and we didn’t want to repeat that. We feel really, really sorry for that performance and result, and today we wanted to bring a good energy. With them, we really appreciated their support, it was amazing. They were fighting with us.”
