After leading Labour to victory in the 2024 general election, Sir Keir Starmer now faces growing whispers of a potential coup from within his own ranks.
Rumours have swirled that senior figures don’t believe he’s following through on his promises, causing tension and unrest within the cabinet.
And while Health Secretary Wes Streeting has publicly rejected claims he’s plotting against the PM to oust him, new odds from AceOdds insist he’s the firm favourite for Labour lead if Starmer does go.
Streeting currently has odds of 4/6 to become the new leader of the Labour party and Prime Minister, followed by Andy Burnham, with odds of 3/1, and Shabana Mahmood, with odds of 5/1.
Speaking to AceOdds, body language expert Darren Stanton revealed that the Prime Minister certainly seemed ‘worried’ and ‘concerned’ at the possibility of being ousted by his peers.
Commenting on yesterday’s Prime Minister’s Questions, Darren said Kemi Badenoch appeared the much stronger candidate whilst Starmer scrambled to come up with a response as he was booed by his peers.
Darren added that Starmer looked under pressure as he looked towards the back benches for support but didn’t receive the response he hoped for.
Speaking to AceOdds, Darren Stanton said, “Rather than listening and being relaxed at what Kemi Badenoch was saying, Keir Starmer was scrambling through his notes to come up with a response and looking back at his peers for support, but instead just getting lots of boos from both sides. He looks like a man under pressure; his facial expressions are of worry and concern. Kemi definitely has Starmer on the ropes. It’s almost like he is trying to get all the words out, but they have zero impact because everyone is shouting.
“Kemi is a much stronger candidate; she is a very good speaker and good at delivering information. Starmer is not suited to that role; he gets unravelled very quickly. There are signs that he is not relaxed or comfortable in his surroundings. He looks as though he believes his position may become untenable before the end of the term.”
