It’s six years since Sunderland last played in the top-flight, but in their first season back in the Championship they have the chance to secure successive promotions and bring the Tyne–Wear derby back to the Premier League.
As for Luton, it is less than a decade since they were playing non-league football, but after losing out in the play-offs last season, they will be desperate to book their place at Wembley this time.
