A recent study by Ernst & Young (E&Y) has revealed a disparity between large UK corporation’s public commitments to achieving net zero, versus the actionable measures that are being put in place to achieve it in time for the government’s 2030 deadline.

In fact, the report notes that only 5% of the FTSE 100 Index companies have developed ‘credible’ net-zero plans that align with the government’s Transition Plan Taskforce framework.

These findings highlight the need to revaluate sustainability strategies, and to ensure they are effective and prioritised.

To support UK businesses in effectively bringing their net-zero targets into fruition, Europe’s leading energy company, Vattenfall Networks, has now developed a new model to offer a straightforward and hassle-free approach to transitioning to renewable energy, including solar.

Acting as a ‘power partner’, the energy specialist designs a bespoke plan for its clients, and then installs, operates and maintains any high voltage infrastructure and energy systems on they behalf. What’s more, they do it all capital expenditure-free.

“Most businesses are ready to embrace the net-zero transition, but lack the capacity to kickstart their journey due to lack of industry knowledge or funding,” explains Suzanna Lashford, Development Manager at Vattenfall Networks.

“So, Vattenfall has introduced a new extended energy service, where we provide our partners with a cost-neutral roadmap to net zero and support them at every step of the process”.

A Simple Path to Direct Carbon Savings

Under the new model, Vattenfall acquires or builds new high voltage power infrastructure, and takes full responsibility for the clients’ network. The company invests capital and deploys newinfrastructure to help clients realise energy efficiency gains and meet decarbonisation targets.

Solutions available to businesses that partner with Vattenfall include power quality and energy efficiency upgrades, electric vehicle charging, solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery energy storage systems (BESS), to name a few. The combination of solar PV and BESS has been proven to deliver businesses direct carbon and cost savings by reducing electricity bills.

Time is of the essence

Developing credible net zero transition plans is now an urgent issue for most UK businesses, which have proven hard to finance and deliver Vattenfall’s new solar and electrical infrastructure lease provides an effective roadmap and eliminates the major barrier of upfront capital investments providing a simple route to accelerate net zero plans.
