A Tesla Supercharger cabinet exploded in Washington state last night. A small bomb is believed to be responsible for the explosion. The local police and the FBI are investigating.

A 12-stall Tesla Supercharger station in Lacey, Washington, is temporarily shut down today because a power cabinet, which powers the stalls, exploded.

The FBI and local police are investigating the situation as a bombing is suspected (images via Dan Solie on Facebook):

Tesla commented on the situation via a post on X:

We’re on-site with Lacey Police and FBI, and reviewing camera footage. Also coordinating with Puget Sound Energy to get the Superchargers back online asap. Don’t mess with critical infrastructure.

Puget Sound Energy is the local electric utility that provides power to the Supercharger station.

Lacey Police commented on the situation:

This morning at 1:34, officers were dispatched to a malicious mischief after receiving multiple calls reporting a loud noise in the area. Officers arrived at Target at 665 Sleater Kinney RD SE, and discovered that the electric vehicle charging station had been damaged.

The police confirmed that the FBI is involved.

Every week for the two months, there have been significant protests at Tesla locations worldwide, but especially in the US, where many see it fair to boycott Tesla for being Elon Musk’s personal piggy bank to finance Trump and what they see as the rise of fascism in the US.

Separately, there have been violent demonstrations against Tesla, including vandalizing Tesla locations, burning cars, and sabotaging charging stations.

Most of the time, these acts of vandalism are handled by local law enforcement, but we noted that the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has been getting involved in local cases since the beginning.

President Trump and his Attorney General have designated any vandalism against Tesla, a company under the control of Elon Musk, Trump’s biggest political donor, as “domestic terrorism” to put the investigations into the FBI’s jurisdiction.

The FBI confirmed that it created a task force just to investigate acts of vandalism against Tesla.

Electrek’s Take

I have pointed out how Trump, after receiving $250 million in political donations from Elon Musk, appears to care more about vandalizing Tesla properties than vandalizing the United States Capitol Building, considering Trump pardoned all the January 6 insurrectionists.

This makes it a bad look to make it domestic terrorism, but the idiots behind things like this situation in Washington, if it’s really a bombing, are giving them reasons to call it that.

They are playing to their hand.

We condemn any violence and vandalism against Tesla and its property. If your goal is to negatively affect Tesla, the peaceful protests and boycotts are working. The violence is counterproductive.

This needs to stop. Someone is going to blow themselves or someone else up sooner rather than later.
