The legend is making a comeback, but this time it may look a little different. With an electric powertrain, the Chevy Camaro is expected to pack more power than ever. Here’s what we know so far.

When will the Chevy Camaro EV launch?

Chevy hinted that the Camaro would return as an electric vehicle last year, but there has been little talk of it since then.

After launching the lower-priced Equinox EV, starting at just $35,000 late last year, Chevy quickly became the fastest-growing EV brand in the US. It’s now second in electric vehicle sales behind Tesla after surpassing Ford and Hyundai.

But that’s not stopping it from turning up the heat on its crosstown rival. According to MotorTrend, Chevy is preparing to introduce the Camaro EV, and it could go head-to-head with the Mustang Mach-E.

Like Mach-E, the electric Camaro is expected to return with a more crossover-SUV look. However, don’t count out a two-door fastback variant just yet. GM’s president Mark Reuss is pulling for the Camaro to live on as a real pony car, but with an electric powertrain.

Reuss also hinted at an affordable version, starting at around $35,000. A Car and Driver article from December 2022 claimed the iconic nameplate could even receive its own sub-brand, including a 2+2 coupe, a convertible, as well as two- and four-door SUV models.

Although it has yet to be confirmed, the Camaro EV will likely ride on GM’s Ultium Platform, the same one powering Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac’s current electric vehicles.

As such, base models are expected to use the same 85 kWh battery as the Chevy Blazer EV, which provides an EPA range of 279 miles. More expensive trims could be offered with the 102 kWh battery, unlocking EPA-est range of 334 miles.

At the other end, a high-performance Chevy Camaro EV “SS” is expected to join the lineup, utilizing the same dual-motor AWD powertrain as the Blazer EV SS (see our review of it).

With 615 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque, the 2025 Blazer EV SS is the quickest SS model Chevy has ever built, with a 0 to 60 mph sprint in 3.4 seconds.

The sports car could even receive an extreme performance variant, borrowing the GMC Hummer EV’s tri-motor, 1,000 hp setup. That much power should be enough to earn a ZL1 trim.

The Chevy Camaro EV is expected to go on sale in the fall of 2026 as a 2027 model year vehicle. Prices and final specifications will be revealed closer to launch, but expect the vehicle to arrive with trims in the $36,000 to $65,500 range.

Would you buy the electric Camaro for just over $35,000? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

For now, Chevy is crushing it in the US electric vehicle market. The Equinox EV, or “America’s most affordable 315+ mile range EV,” just had its best sales month ever in July. It was also the best sales month for any electric car in the US outside of Tesla.
