The U.S. Postal Service unveiled proposed price increases on Monday, including an increase of 4.8% for a “forever” first-class stamp to 66 cents, from 63 cents. The move is meant “to address continued elevated inflation and prior years defective pricing model,” the government agency said. If approved by a regulatory commission, the new prices would take effect July 9, USPS said. USPS most recently raised prices in January, also citing inflation, in the latest in a string of price increases in the past couple of years. The Postal Service is also seeking price increases for services and products such as certified mail, PO Box rental fees, money order fees, and others. The agency in September 2021 told customers to expect twice-a-year price increases starting January.
